Trim Levels (Exterior)
With the 2019 Soul you can choose between three trims. The first trim has no special name, but it does come with air conditioning, a 5-inch touch screen, automatic headlights, and a six-way adjustable driver's seat. Next up is the Soul Plus, and on top of a new engine you get fog lights, heated side mirrors, and a lot of optional packages. Topping the list is the Soul Exclaim, and with this trim you get a third engine and extra standard equipment like a leather steering wheel, a smart key system, and a set of seats with mixed leather and cloth upholstery.
Engine (Power)
Each trim comes with its own engine. The base model uses a 1.6-liter I-4 engine that delivers 130 horsepower and 118 pound-feet of torque with a six-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission. On the Plus you get a 2.0-liter I-4 that produces 161 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque. The manual transmission isn't an option on this model. The top trim comes with a top engine, a 1.6-liter I-4 with turbo power that offers 201 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. It also gets a unique dual-clutch transmission with seven gears.
Performance
If you're looking for the best performance on a Soul, you'll get it from the upgraded engines in the two higher trims. However, all three come with features like FlexSteer, a system that lets you adjust the steering sensitivity to focus more on comfort or more on responsiveness. Another way you can adjust the drive is with Drive Mode Select. This selector adjusts the climate control system, the shift points, and the engine torque to favor performance or fuel economy.
Interior
Thanks to the square rear, the Kia Soul can store up to 24.2 cubic feet of cargo in the back. This number goes up to 61.3 cubic feet if you fold the 60/40 split rear seats. You can also keep the seats up to get two roomy rows where adults have no trouble fitting thanks to at least 39.1 inches of legroom. The interior can also come with premium features like an upgraded infotainment system with UVO and an 8-inch touch screen, a 10-way adjustable driver's seat, turn-by-turn navigation, and a Harman Kardon audio system.
Safety Features
Standard equipment on the 2019 Soul includes four disc brakes, six air bags, electronic stability control, vehicle stability management, and a tire pressure monitoring system. Depending on the trim and your package choices, you can also get driver assistance features like a lane departure warning, a forward collision warning system, and autonomous emergency braking.
