Kia just announced exciting news for EV owners! Beginning in January 2025, Kia electric vehicles will gain access to Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network. Following suit with what competitors Ford, GM, Hyundai, and Rivian have already done, this is a huge gamechanger for EV owners. Electric vehicle charging continues to be a roadblock for consumers contemplating a purchase. The expansion of the charging infrastructure for Kia is a great way to make owning an EV convenient and more accessible. Jeff Belzer’s Kia will walk you through the ins and outs of this recent update.

What Vehicles Apply?

This recent development applies to both the EV6 and the EV9. These vehicles will have access to over 16,500 Tesla Superchargers. For owners who purchased an EV6 or EV9 after September 4th, 2024, Kia will provide a free NACS (North American Charging Standard) adapter for the Superchargers.

How Do I Get My Adaptor?

Kia will reach out directly to the eligible EV owners to send an adaptor to. Shipping will begin in early 2025 for those individuals. If you purchased an EV before September 4th, 2024, you will unfortunately not receive a complimentary adaptor. They will be available to purchase through Kia dealerships, although we have not received any information on cost or date of this release. We’ll keep you updated as we learn more.

When Will It Take Effect?

Kia EV owners will gain access to the Tesla Supercharger network on January 15, 2025. In addition, there will be an automatic software update in early 2025 for all Kia electric vehicles. This will allow for in-car payment for charging directly through the infotainment system.

The announcement of Kia electric vehicles getting access to the Tesla Supercharger network is an exciting one. This collaboration is a great step forward in making EVs more convenient and accessible for everyone.
